This website showcases the fine art photography portfolios of myself, Pittsburgh based photographer John Flatz.
The subject matter of the photos ranges from black and white still lifes and landscapes to color photographs of urban architecture, water and abandoned places to digitally constructed photo montages.
"My approach to photographing, and what I am visually enticed by, is to find some interesting pattern, composition or color combination in a scene. What the photograph is of is not that important. To me a rusty industrial object or an abandoned room with peeling paint can be just as interesting or beautiful as a colorful reflection of nature on a peaceful stream.
References to culture and the ability to evoke personal memories and feelings are also qualities that I aspire to include in my work. They can be can be found in many strange and fantastic places that I've had the chance to explore in search of new ideas for pictures.
The patterns of shadow and light, the colors and designs of our culture and the world that we live in, the power of an image to suggest ideas, those are the things that I try to capture in my photographs."
